An Obscene poster -- In present scenario of Lok Sabha Election

 An Obscene poster

Muhammad Asadullah

It was during my stay for education in Aurangabad.,my friend Mr. M. was worried about the happenings in our country. Those were the days, people were unsatisfied with their life full of restlessness, and the efforts from present government, to change the state of affair, were doubtful.

M r. M used to advocate a new political party, during the discussion, which would, in his view, better than present one and efficient to solve the problems.

In my opinion the first priority of this politician is power. They are least interested in any change, particularly if it does not yield those benefits they are desirous for. Most of The politicians are in this field for selfish motif. If a person come in this arena with the desire to eradicate all the evils, his colleague will not allow him to do so because they gain all they want from this corrupt atmosphere. If the whole system will be neat and clean, a lot of people will be deprived of their booty.

Still Mr. M. was buoyant with his dream.
It was a fine morning; we were just strolling in a market. We saw a young man standing by a wall scratching a poster; obviously it had been of an English movie.

Mr. M. said,’ I think, he may be a social worker from a party against these dirty things, came in our country with western culture, look! He is not a man, he is my ideal government.’

I was also surprised and pleased to see the effort of a young man to remove obscene posters from wall of our streets.
They next moment he also snatched the transitory pleasure from our faces, as the young man, after removing the poster insert his hand in his bag and took out another new poster and pasted it on the wall. We Bothe stride near him to have a closer view, and to our surprise, the new poster was many time obscene than previous one.

Eid: A festival of delight and harmony

Eid: A festival of delight and harmony

Tauseef Ahmed

Eid is a festival celebrated all over the world with great enthusiasm. There are two occasions of Eid, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha. Former followed by the month of Ramadhan, which is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. This holy month is associated with fast.

Every religion has its own ways of rituals. Fast is the most common practice among different religions. It is called Wrath in Sanskrit, Upwas in Hindi, Saum in Arabic and Roza in Urdu. Another important feature of Ramazan is that the Holy Quran was revealed on heaven in this month. That is why this book is commonly read among Muslims during this month and also recited in Qayam-ul-Lail, which is known by the name of Taravih. Besides fasts, recitation of Holy book, remembrance of Allah, Muslims perform charity and for all these sort of prayers they got an occasion of merry making which is called Eid.

On the particular day of Eid, Muslims go to Eidgah, an open ground outside the township or in big cities they perform Namaz of Eid in mosques. But before going to Eidgah they have to distribute Fitra.

This is a sort of charity given to poor people in the shape of grain or money so that they may also enjoy the happiness of Eid. For every member of the family either children or elders, Fitra is given. Its quantity is near about two and half kg wheat or its equal amount. Since Fitra is distributed during this occasion, this festival is called as Eid-ul-Fitr.

People perform Namaz and then greet to each other, visit each other’s houses and have a sweet dish specially prepared for this occasion called Sheer Khurma. Eid is a special occasion to celebrate with family, friends and neighbors. The festival also provides an opportunity to make everybody close to us. After Eid, the programmes of Eid-Milan are organized by Muslims to invite the people of different communities so it becomes a medium of social harmony and peace. This festival greatly appeals to children because like their elders they have new clothes, shoes and moreover the got money in the form of Eidee from their elders whom they greet the Salam of Eid.
Different Muslim countries have various traditions with a slight difference the most remarkable characteristic of Indian Eid is its warm and affection created among people. After Namaz-e-Eid Muslims embrace their brethren and greet Eid Mubarak and invite them to their homes for having Sheer Khurma.

CELEBRATING EID IN A NEW FORM

CELEBRATING EID IN A NEW FORM

BY

Now....
A new form of delight is remaining for us and that is, smiling faces of our children and relatives
and
certainly this is our Eid.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Last week I saw ten years old Najma asking her mother, “Why don’t this Eid come earlier, I have completed all my preparations, I have purchased clothes, sandals and bangles etc”. It was the middle of Ramzan, the holy month, which is famous for the fast, prayers and charity. At the end of this month Muslims all over the world celebrate the festival of Eid -ul-fitr, which is considered a joyful reward for their fasts and prayers they have performed during the month.

Every festival is an occasion of merry making and happiness. The same sense is in the word ‘Eid’. Eid-ul-Fitr, the most important festival of Muslims has many common features of celebrations like other festivals, but there are a few peculiarities for having Sheer Khurma and Sewaiyan (vermicelli), special sweet dishes prepared for the occasion, wearing new scented clothes, performing Namaz-e-Eid which most of the people particilarly in villages prefer to go to the out side open ground called Eid Gah, but in cities due to unavailibility of such places muslims perform Namaz in nearest mosques. After namaz they congratulate each other by hugging and shaking hands.
A few newspapers publish suppliments consisting many pages of pictures of kids who had performed Roza (fast) during the month of Ramzan. It is strange that most of the poems published in Urdu on Eid have a common notion that depicts the woe of poor people unable to celebrate Eid hole heartedly due to their poverty. The same situation has been described in a couplet of poet Iqbal. He says,
Hilal –e-Eid Hamari Hansi Udata Hai (The crecent of Eid seems to laugh at us)

In our society we have also seen middle class people facing hard time to cope with the expences of shopping they have to do for the festival. Last week I saw a heap of applications forms for emergent loan before the secretary of Teacher’s co-operative society.

A couple of days before, I saw a beggar lady with her children asking my neighbour for some money,” Amma, hamare chhote chhote bachche hain, kuch zakat, fitra dila do.” This is a common scene, particularly in Muslim vicinities during this holy month. Many groups of beggars and charity collectors seem wondering from door to door. Most of them are not really in need but they have adopted this as an occupetion. It is also a fact that there are a number of people who are unable to meet both the ends, their poverty and dire need never Known to public. The people who are enjoying three-figured salary also found disturbed at the occasion of a festival then what about a person who is lying below poverty line .The charity in the month of Ramazan is for these needy people. This Charity called Fitra is compulsery to every Muslim, and it should be handed over to the needy people before going to the namaz of Eid.
Some one had asked Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) “What about the person who is unable to give any thing in charity?”

She was told that such person should refrain himself from hurting others and perform good deed with his hands, this is charity on his behalf, and if he has no hands, he should advise people for good deeds and in case he is unable to do this too, he should keep silence. It would also be treated charity from him.
It may be Eid or any festival, these occasions being enjoyed mostly by the children. We have ample sweet memories of such moments in our childhood. Most of us have fade up with these celebrations. New clothes, bright new shoes, sweet dishes and other things have been failed to provide us joy. Still a new form of delight is remaining for us and that is, smiling faces of our children and relatives and certainly this is our Eid.

They Thought I Was Dead

Story

By: Muhammad Asadulah

My parents decided my marriage without consulting me. At this I became angry because I was completely against marriage before completing my education. They brushed aside my objections and selected a girl suitable according to their views.
My friends received this news with a storm of laughter as they were aware of my irritation in the matter. One of my friends informed that the lady who was to be my life partner was made in China. Another said ,’No the girls is made with the collaboration of Afro- Chinese agencies .”
These disparaging comments ,provoked me to pronounce my refusal.

First of all my father and mother tried to change my mind but then left me alone. They knew me as an obedient son who would not go against their wishes To show my anger I kept mum ,and didn’t touch my meal .

Just after this Asif ,a bosom friend of mine, came to me I received him with a smile on my face .because I didn’t want to inform him what was going in my family . Coincidently his sister’s marriage was also on the way of settlement .some members of a highbrow family had visited his parents and after a deep discussion finalized the terms of marriage. Now they were only waiting for a green signal from Asif.

I asked Asif why he was so nervous .Asif told that a close relative of his friend had other day informed him that the bridegroom was a drunkard and a character less person .He had enquired about him from other sources too and found the information correct .Now they wanted to reject the engagement .Asif had come to me to finalize the draft of the telegram After a long discussion pondering on I pulled out my letter pad and wrote down .
“Sorry, Unable to accept marriage proposal “.
Then we went to the post office where we found some friend just ready to start for a picnic spot near the city .I accompanied them .
Asif returned home after sending the telegram. We could not return till next afternoon ,because our car had broken down .Next day when I reached home I saw a crowd around with some women weeping bitterly .When they saw me they suddenly stopped crying. Someone uttered “Oh he is alive. When my mother saw me ,she embraced me shouting” Mera Bachcha”(My child)tears were rolling down on her cheek, I asked “ What happened ?”

My elder brother came near me and said ‘When you were not seen any where till night. We became apprehensive because you had exchanged hot words with us on the issue of marriage. We checked your bed room where we found a message written on the middle of the letter pad “Sorry, Unable to accept marriage proposal “.
And this morning we read in the paper that a young man clad in safari had killed himself in the night by throwing before a running train. Coincidently you also wore blue safari and had left home in anger .So we……”

He left his sentence incomplete but I understood the whole drama.

The real advantage I got from this episode was that my parents did not force their choice on me .
